20 Surprising Essential Oil Hacks that’ll Ease Your Daily Life

Essential oils are known for their use in aromatherapy. Ailments like migraine, stress, insomnia can be solved with essential oils, but there are a lot of different exciting and creative uses around your house.

If you have not tried using essential oils, you should get a few bottles and try these hacks, trust me they are amazing. The best part is that they smell great and are eco-friendly.

Essential Oil Uses

1. Refreshing Liners

Pour 1 cup of vodka or vinegar in a spray bottle and add 20 to 30 drops of lavender essential oil or any of your favorite fragrances, you can mix scents and create your own. Mix the solution and spray it on your liners.

Your liners will smell fresh, and the aroma will create a fabulous bedtime ambiance.

2. Moth Repellent 

Moths frequently create a problem for your clothes. To get rid of them, we tend to use chemicals that may not be safe for you. Put a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and hang it in your closet. Then dampen the cleaning cloth in your favorite essential oils and wipe your closet shelves.

I generally use lemongrass or rosemary for this process.

3. Smelly Shoes

Shoes tend to stink if they come in contact with water or sweat, so cleaning them is a must.

I came across this use of essential oils when I used to play soccer in school.

Sprinkle the mixture inside your shoes and let them stay overnight.

Dust off your shoes before use and enjoy the freshness.

4. DIY Shoe Polish

Do-it-yourself shoe polish is not only wallet-friendly, but it also makes your shoes smell good when made with essential oils.

Ingredients:

Place the soap in a bowl. Add boiling water and blend it, and let it stay for 24 hours.

Take a bain-marie, melt vaseline and, beeswax. Let it cool and add soap mixture and stir it. 

Store it in a glass jar and, you can easily use it when required.

5. Perfumed Pillows:

Perfumed pillows help you sleep calmly and, the oil and herbs can stimulate or calm your senses.

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and dried herbs to the cloth. Now place it inside the pillow—that’s it!

6. Iron Clothes

The oils help to stick the scent on your clothes and keep them ironed for long.

 Add a few drops of essential oil to a spray bottle half-filled with water and spray it while you are ironing your clothes.

7. Get Rid of Stale Towel Smell

Towels start to stink up your room whenever left wet and folded into the towel rack. We can tackle this by washing your towel once with white vinegar and then with a mixture of baking soda and your favorite essential oils.

Dry the towel to enjoy the fresh scent.

8. Remove Cigarette Smoke Odor 

A not-so-fun fact about cigarette odor is that it sticks to your clothes until washed. Now, this is not healthy or desirable to anyone, therefore we can use this essential oil spray to neutralize the odor.

Concoct a mixture of rosemary, eucalyptus, and tea tree essential oils in a spray bottle.

9. Toilet Freshener

Eliminate nasty odors from your bathroom and make it smell fresh. Put a few drops of essential oil on the toilet paper roll. You can use your essential oils. I prefer using light fragrances like lemon or orange.

Your toilet will smell fresh with every use of your toilet paper.

10. DIY Laundry Detergent:

Making laundry detergent at home is not as complicated as it sounds. It is cheaper and also more efficient than the ones you get in stores.

Ingredients:

Place all the ingredients in a food processor or blender to combine the ingredients and store them in an airtight jar until it’s time to use.

11. Polish Silver

You can easily polish your silver at home without using harsh chemicals on it. 

Take a soft bristle brush, put 4-5 drops of lemon essential oil and baking soda on top and rub it on the silver. Rinse it thoroughly with warm water and use a cotton ball to polish it. You can remove the tarnish from silver and get the shine back.

Using a natural and safe cleaner to clean your kitchen board is the best option.

Add 6 drops of the essential oil to the vinegar and water mixture, pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on the cutting board, let it stay for 15 mins, and rinse it with warm water.

13. DIY Floor Cleaner

Make your floor cost-efficient and easy-to-make floor cleaner with commonly found household objects.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoon unscented liquid soap 
  • 25 drops essential oil of your choice
  • 1-gallon warm water

Directions:

Add liquid soap and essential oil to warm water, stir, and use it to clean your floor or any hard surface.

14. Disinfect Counters

Some essential oils have antifungal and antibacterial properties, using these oils you can save a lot of money and keep the harmful chemicals at bay.

Using essential oil for casually wiping is a good idea because it will leave a natural and fresh scent.

Fill a spray bottle with liquid soap and add 3-4 drops of tea tree, lavender, or lemon essential oil and spray it on your kitchen or bathroom counters and wipe it with a rag.

15. Toilet Bombs

Toilet bombs are similar to bathtub bombs. You need to flush in these bombs and get a fresh-smelling bathroom.

Add a few drops of essential oil to baking soda, spray a little water on it and mold it in any shape you like. Pop one every day to make your bathroom smell amazing.

16. Wash Fruits and Veggies

To remove germs and pesticides from fruits and veggies, you need to do more than just wash under running water.

Take a bowl to fill it with lukewarm water, add 6 drops of lemon essential oil and wash the veggies and fruits in it.

17. Protect Your Garden Bed and Backyard

I like using essential oils in my garden to protect it from pests because it does not harm the local endocrine system.

Add 10 drops of essential oil to 9 ounces of water and castile soap. Attach a spray to your garden hose and spray the mixture on your garden and drive insects away.

18. DIY Carpet Cleaner

Don’t just dry clean your carpet, use essential oil and baking soda to remove pet and food odors and make your room smell fresh.

I like using essential oils to clean my carpet for all the special occasions, you should try this too.

Vacuum your carpet to get rid of any dirt on the surface.

Add 12 drops of lemon, 6 drops lemongrass essential oil, 6 drops tea tree essential oil, 12 drops lavender essential oil, 6 drops clove oil to 3 cups of baking soda.

Sprinkle it over your carpet use a sponge and rub it over the carpet to make sure the mixture reaches inside. Let it stay for 1 to 2 hrs and vacuum your carpet to get a clean carpet and fragrant room.

19. Replace Candles

Lighting up scented candles is great for creating or getting into a mood, it can also cure the problems of insomnia too, but it has a risk of catching fire.

To keep your home safe from fire you should use essential oils. 

You can use essential oils according to your mood. Like, for an intimate moment you can use rose, or if you are hosting your family or friends for dinner use pine, lavender, etc.

20. Remove Shower Curtain Scum

Remove the dark scummy film on your shower curtain. The built-up is disgusting and should be cleaned immediately.

Take a spray bottle fill it with water and add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and tea tree oil and spray it on the scummy area.

The oils will help get the dirt to loosen and you can easily wipe the dirt off with a rag.
