Yes, with just some simple tips and tricks, you can say goodbye to that dirty oil stain and save your precious garment as well as your money. You just require some simple household stuff and in some cases, advanced products to remove tough stains from clothes.

General Precautions:

  • Treat the stain as quickly as possible. The more you act lazy on it, the more difficult it is to get rid of it.
  • Clean the excess stain liquid immediately.
  • Before applying any product or any remedy to treat the stain, check it’s sensitivity to the cloth and make sure that it won’t damage the cloth by applying it to a small area of the cloth and observing its behavior after 2-3 minutes.

1. Remove Rust Stains

The first step is to not to rub this stain. Rubbing it may cause it to get more engaged with the fabric and stick to it. Mix salt and lemon juice in somewhat equal proportions and apply that mixture to the stain. Salt adds up to the strength of lemon juice to remove the stain. Wash it with some detergent after some time. If you can, allow the garment to line dry in the sun which helps in eliminating any light brownish marks which might be left.

Another method or a substitute for lemon juice is white vinegar. Apply it in the same way as lemon juice (covering the stained area with the liquid then washing the cloth with some detergent). If the stain still persists, then repeat the step until the stain vanishes completely.

If you want don’t want to go with DIY method, then Magica rust remover works perfectly for dealing with rust stains. It is very efficient in dealing with rust stains on clothes as well as carpets.

2. Remove Coffee Stains

After blotting the excess coffee with a clean cloth, soak the stain in a solution of 1 quart (around 0.9 – 1 liter), 6-7 drops of liquid dishwashing soap and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for 10 minutes.

Now, rinse the stained area with warm water and gently rub the other side of stain (inner side of cloth) with a sponge dipped in rubbing alcohol. After this, wash as normal with some good bleach for whites or if the stain has turned very faint then just wash with a good natural detergent.

If your cloth gets stained while attending some party, and you are unable to use the above method at that time, use club soda to moist it and rush to home as early as possible to send it to washing machine trip.

5. Remove Oil Stains

Apply talcum powder or baby powder on the stain immediately. Form a good coat of the powder on oil affected area of the fabric. Leave it in this condition for at least 30-45 minutes. The powder absorbs all the oil during this time. Then wipe off the powder and apply a good stain remover Then wash the cloth as usual.

You can also consider using baking soda to clean instead of talcum powder or baby powder.

Even a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution can clean blood stains easily. Just apply some on the stain, rub the stain gently from behind and leave it for a while. Then just wash the cloth. (a hospital nurse recommended this method).

Mustard stains! Another stubborn stain and also common if you love mustard sauce. Thankfully, cleaning them is not hard if you use the correct method. This method for treating mustard stains is even suitable for a few days old stains.

Now, rinse the stained part of the fabric and rub some natural liquid laundry detergent on the stain and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Wash as usual and watch the stains disappear. Even grass and ground stains can be treated using this method (see the next point).

10. Remove Grass and Ground stains

This stain is very easy to remove. All you need to do is apply some liquid detergent on the stain and let it sit for 20 minutes. Now, rub the fabric together and wash with warm water after some time. If some color still remains on the garment, then apply some diluted vinegar.

Another method is using washing soda to treat such stains. Apply washing soda on the stain and allow it to soak overnight. Then wash as usual.

11. Remove Sweat stains/ Yellowish clothes

With time, sweat stains and yellowness starts appearing on white colored and even some light colored clothes. So how to deal with this?

This stain remover is very efficient in dealing with stains and comes handy in winters when there is no sunlight. Yes, it does not require you to dry clothes under sunlight. A must try!
