Summer is just on the head and you must be wondering about what effect this season will have on you? Obviously, it’s going to be very hot, that’s why called summer. Haha. But how can we beat the heat during summer? Many people have air conditioners and other such sorts of cooling appliances these days. So these people do have some relief. But this has one disadvantage too which I have mentioned in the latter part of the post.
Many people try to avoid going out of their homes during afternoon hours when its the sun’s rule. This can save you from the sun’s rays, hot winds and the high temperatures outside but what about the weather that you experience while just sitting at your home. Don’t you feel the summer even while just you are relaxing on your sofa?
I think you must be nodding your head with a YES unless you are sitting in a room which has an air conditioner at your service.
Now I won’t just ask you to get an air conditioner and then pay the hefty electricity bills. There are many other ways which are way cheaper and affordable to keep you cool this summer. All of these does no harm which otherwise an air conditioner does to your body. So let’s have a look at them and beat the heat this summer.
Allow the fresh air at night
you might be keeping the windows and curtains closed during the daytime to keep away sunlight and hot winds obviously. During night time you can open the windows to let the air circulate in the house as summer nights bring very cool air compared to daytime. Open the doors which obstruct the flow of wind throughout the house.
If you have a habit of cooking dinner late, you should shift it to little early at least during the summer months. This allows the heat to slowly escape and move out of the house and give both the house and you a cooling effect at night. If you cook dinner late, then too the heat will take equal time to escape but the house will remain warm during night time. Keep the windows open while cooking. You can even consider cooking out of the house, either in your backyard or some other space, so that you beat the heat out of your house.
Beat The Heat With Water
1. Sprinkle water around the house
If you keep your windows open during the daytime, sprinkle water outside your house, such as in the lawn area which is in contact with your house. This helps to reduce the temperature of surroundings. This should preferably be done in the morning hours when the sun is not at its peak otherwise it would affect a little and you will just keep on wasting the water which is very precious especially during summer months.
This is something which I have seen being used in my home regularly when I was a small kid. The area outside the entrance of house was sprayed with water and thus, we had the house filled with cooling sensations during the hot summer days.
2. Spraying water on the terrace
This is useful for people living on the floor just below the terrace. When the sun is at its peak, the terrace becomes very hot and the heat is even transferred to the floor’s ceiling which is located below it. This increases that floor’s temperature and makes it hot. Making the terrace wet with water makes the terrace cool. This, in turn, cools the ceiling of the floor beneath.
3. Keep your body dank with water
When you are about to sleep, you can make your body dank (bare hands, legs, neck, chest, face) with water. When you will switch on the fan and sleep, you will feel the breeze as cold as that of an air conditioner. This trick will sufficiently keep you cool until you are fast asleep.
4. Importance of water
I know this is one of the most common ideas to keep you cool during summer but it is the most important of all the hacks you would apply to keep you cool. You can drink water or any juice or other liquids whose major ingredient is water. Keeping yourself hydrated all the time during summer keeps you cool as it eliminates the heat generated by the body.
Also, lack of water in the body accumulates toxins in the body and may even cause pimples.
Less of the air conditioner
I am sure, you must be thinking,”What! Use air conditioner less. In fact, this is the thing which helps many of us survive the summer months”. Yes, you are absolutely correct that this thing helps us survive the hot weather but at the same time it changes our body and makes it less adaptable to heat. In absence of it, it makes us feel our surroundings hotter than they actually are. Isn’t this true?
You can use the air conditioner but you should not be completely dependent on it because then you will find it very difficult to live without it. If you go out when the sun is burning, it’s not possible to carry an air conditioner on your head to keep you cool. Haha. You must maintain your body in such a way that it is adaptable to every type of weather.
Grains can help you sleep peacefully
You must be wondering,”how can grains help me keep cool and sleep peacefully in summer?” Putting an end to your can be called curiosity or blank thoughts, yes they can. Grains such as wheat or rice definitely help you. Grains
Keep your cheeks and feet cold
Keeping your feet and cheeks cold can help reduce the temperature of your entire body by 40-50%. Isn’t it amazing?
You can keep a bucket filled with cold water near you and dip your feet in it. Whenever you feel hot, you have your bucket near you. You just need to dip your feet in it for a few minutes. You can wash your face frequently to keep the temperature of your cheeks low or keep a wet cloth on your cheeks.
So, the moral is to keep your feet and cheeks cool by any water effect.
Keep yourself calm to beat the heat
I know this is more of a psychological type, but it does affect. You must keep your mind calm in order to keep your body calm and cool. Try avoiding burning out your brain, getting angry, shouting, etc as all of these is just wasting your energy. In such a process, your body works out more, thus increasing the body temperature.
Make space for lotions and creams in the fridge
Before applying any lotion or cream, keep its bottle in the refrigerator for some time. When you
apply it to your skin after it is cooled, it will instantly provide you a cooling sensation. Although this effect will just last only for a couple of minutes, it’s worth trying to provide you some relief midsummer.
DIY Wearable Ice-Packs
It is not necessary to use icepacks just for healing purposes, use them to beat the heat as well. This hack which I have found is pretty amazing. You can check out the instructions on Buzzfeed here.
